Shaswat takes the lead at Kabete Junior Open

Shashwat Harish held onto his lead after round two of Kabete Junior Open after returning a score of  75 to take a three-shot lead over Soni Tsevi at the Vetlab Golf Club.

Harish opened the day with a double bogey at the par four hole one where he picked a birdie in round one. But his recovery was quick as he picked up birdies at the par-five hole seven and at the par-four hole nine to complete the first nine with 37. The second nine was almost flawless, save for two bogeys at holes ten and seventeen. His 75 of the day takes him to an outright lead with a score of nine over par 153.

“It was an interesting journey but I just had to keep going one shot at a time, play the course as it is. I didn’t even look at the leaderboard the whole round; I actually saw it at the end, but I feel okay,” said Shashwat.

Tsevi  Soni climbs to second on the leaderboard after a score of 76 in round two. His first nine was frustrating, starting with a bogey, a birdie, another bogey then three level pars and three bogeys. His second nine was smooth where he played level par in all nine holes.

“When you playing good and you feel solid about your game, you get into a nice groove through the round and it is the best place to be, feels really good. Wednesday  I have a plan to keep it in and play nicely, hit greens, hit fairways and just stick to the plan and just putt well,” explained Soni.

Joshua Maina is now third, five strokes behind the winner with Mitansh Thacker droping to fourth on the leaderboard. Maahir Patel climbs from joint eighth in round one to fifth with a score of 17 over par 161.

The best girls are tied at position 16 after playing 84 and 85. Belinda Wanjiru maintains position 16 from round one, joined by Kanana Muthoni.

The third and final round is in progress at the Vetlab Sports club in Kabete.
