The National Assembly Committee on Sports and Culture has expressed dissatisfaction with the response by the Ministry over the alleged misappropriation of the Sports Fund money.

The Committee, during the meeting chaired by Hon. Dan Wanyama, observed that the Sports Ministry’s response about the management of the Sports Fund cash was unsatisfactory and had many gaps.

The probe follows the statement sought by Isiolo County MP Hon. Mumina Bonaya.

“Having gone through the response from the Sports Ministry, the Committee is not convinced that the response fully addressed queries raised by Hon. Gollo,” said Hon. Wanyama.

He added: “I therefore direct the ministry to do a comprehensive report by adequately responding to concerns raised by Hon Gollo before re-tabling the response.”

Hon. Bonaya, during last week’s plenary session, requested a statement regarding transparency and accountability in the management of the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund.

She noted that the statement should detail the criteria used by the Kenya Academy of Sports and the fund in identifying and assessing the needs of sports development in Kenya.

She also wanted accountability on funds allocated to SASDF and all sports-related activities, among others.
Hon. Bonaya, who attended the meeting, noted that she was not satisfied with the response.

“Details in the report do not fully address my concerns. The response is not detailed, and it is very shallow,” she observed.

Hon. Wanyama assured her that the Committee would ensure that all her concerns were addressed satisfactorily, noting that it was part of the Committee’s oversight role.
