The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has expelled nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from the party over allegations of disloyalty and violation of party ideals.
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar confirmed that the party’s Disciplinary Committee resolved to oust Orwoba after exhaustively deliberating on the matter.
Omar noted that the decision was made in line with Article 29 of the UDA Constitution and was later ratified by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) during a meeting held on Monday, May 19.
“Sen. Gloria Orwoba ceases to be a member of the UDA Party. Consequently, she no longer enjoys any privileges accorded to party members, nor is she authorized to represent or act on behalf of the party in any capacity,” he said.
Omar disclosed that UDA has formally written to the Speaker of the Senate to initiate the process of Orwoba’s removal from the Upper House and has nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, to replace her.
“The party has notified the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of her expulsion,” said Omar.
“In accordance with the party’s nomination rules and based on the party list submitted to the IEBC prior to the 2022 General Election, the party has nominated Mrs. Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, to fill the resulting vacancy,” he added.
Senator Orwoba’s expulsion follows a series of public actions that placed her at odds with the ruling party’s leadership.
On April 17, she was present at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to receive former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i upon his return to Kenya and later participated in his homecoming ceremony at Gusii Stadium on May 2, appearances that UDA viewed as acts of disloyalty.
