UDA vows to expel Gachagua from party if he is successfully impeached

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA), led by President William Ruto, has stated it will expel Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from the party if members of parliament successfully impeach him.

The party’s Secretary-General, Hassan Omar, insists that UDA will have no further dealings with Gachagua once he is deemed unsuitable to serve in public office. He made this statement while indicating that a majority of the party’s parliamentarians support the ousting of the Deputy President.

“Should that motion of impeachment against the Deputy President sail through, our immediate concern will be to eject him also as a member of the UDA party. You cannot be found to be grossly incompetent, undermining the constitution and national unity and still remain a ranking member of this party,” he said

“I am reliably informed that most of our members of parliament from the UDA have appended their signatures and are in support of that motion of impeachment. We will go with what the majority of UDA members decide. That is what the members feel is in the best interest of the party and the country,” remarked Omar.

The Secretary-General was quick to point out that the lawmakers in the National Assembly would be justified in removing Gachagua from office, insisting that his conduct has left much to be desired.

“If I were an MP, I would find sufficient grounds to impeach the Deputy President. You cannot preach the gospel of ethnicity, malice, division, exclusion, and inciting one group of people against another,” he said.

“He has been the most catastrophic and insidious in delivering a decisive blow to the unity of this country, which had been carefully knit by the hustler nation. I don’t think it is proper or right to have a Deputy President who is a threat to national unity,” charged Omar.

The party’s Treasurer, Japhet Nyakundi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kitutu Chache North, shares a similar view.

“This is a matter of great concern. The Deputy President has appeared to be very tribal and someone who does not want to engage with people from other regions. We want someone who is a symbol of national unity,” noted Nyakundi.

A section of MPs has confirmed that the motion for impeachment will be tabled on Tuesday this week.
