World under-20 champion Edmund Serem, held off stiff competition from Ethiopians to bag his first Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour gold series title on Saturday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
The 17-year-old African champion dominated the 3,000msc final from the onset to claim victory in 8:27.68.
Ethiopians Fikadu Dinka and Godana Gemechu, took 2nd and 3rd positions in 8:27.97 and 8:31.82, respectively.
Kenya’s hope of a double win over the distance proved futile as Ethiopians recorded a clean podium sweep in the women’s final led by Asefa Wosane in 9:30.68 minutes.

Tufa Kena and Gesese Firehiwot took 2nd and 3rd places in that order, as Diana Chepkemoi and Jackline Chepkoech were the best-placed Kenyans in 4th and 5th positions, respectively.

Over 189 athletes from different nations competed in the 1-day gold tour meet, the sixth stop in 2025, in national, discretionary and core events.
