The Super Eagles are returning to the CHAN tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, for the fourth time in their history. They haven’t participated since 2018.
They have reached the semifinals twice in their previous three appearances.
With a formidable squad featuring some of the Nigerian league’s brightest stars, the Super Eagles are tipped as strong contenders.
The Nigeria Football Federation replaced Daniel Ogunmodede, who led the team to tournament qualification, with Eric Sekou Chelle, a Malian, as head coach in a coaching change that took place just one month before CHAN.
The Malian-born Chelle, who is the coach of Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, has now been handed the additional task of coaching the national team for home-based players.
Nigeria will open their fourth appearance against defending champions Senegal on 5th August at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
