Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, has arrived in Yokohama, Japan, for the 9th Tokyo International Conference on Africa’s Development (TICAD 9), which begins on Wednesday.
His Press Secretary, Jacob Ng’etich, stated that Mudavadi will participate in all plenary sessions and official events, including a welcome reception hosted by Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishida and Yokohama City Mayor Takeharu Yamanaka.
Ng’etich outlined that Mudavadi is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Ishida on Tuesday, visit the Yokohama City Assembly, and later engage with Mayor Yamanaka.
He will also take part in a public-private business dialogue and witness the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation between Kenya and Japan.
A key highlight of Mudavadi’s agenda will be his involvement in a side event on the Economic Inclusion of Forcibly Displaced Persons in Africa, hosted by the UNHCR. He is expected to present Kenya’s Shirika Plan, launched in March 2025, which has transformed the Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps into integrated settlements providing education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
Ng’etich also confirmed that Raof Mazou, the UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner for Operations, will pay a courtesy visit to Dr. Mudavadi during the conference.
This year’s TICAD, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” is jointly organized by the Government of Japan, the United Nations, the World Bank, and the African Union Commission.
