Mandera has unveiled a state-of-the-art Dialysis Centre at the County Teaching and Referral Hospital, marking a significant milestone in efforts to enhance healthcare services

In addition, the county announced plans to establish an MRI Unit to strengthen specialist clinics and enhance access to advanced diagnostic services.

Speaking during the launch, Mandera Governor Mohamed Khalif noted that the initiative is part of embracing the One Health Approach, a forward-looking concept that recognises the interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health.

For decades, Mandera residents have endured costly and often painful journeys to Nairobi, Moyale, or even across the border in search of specialised health services such as dialysis and advanced imaging.

The new facilities aim to ease this burden by bringing these critical services closer to the people.

Governor Khalif also highlighted progress on the Social Health Authority, a key step towards achieving Universal Health Care (UHC).

However, he acknowledged that challenges persist, particularly the slow reimbursement processes, which have left hospitals struggling to purchase medicines, pay suppliers, and sustain essential services.

With most of the limited revenue collected at health facilities ring-fenced for service delivery, the delays have severely strained operations.

Despite these challenges, the county government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening the health system and ensuring that residents have access to quality and affordable medical care.
