Ghanaian singer and songwriter Gyakie has unveiled her debut album “After Midnight”, marking a significant milestone in the career of one of Africa’s most compelling female voices.
The 17-track project represents an exploration of vulnerability, healing, identity and self-love that showcases her evolution from promising talent to established artist.
Born to legendary Ghanaian musician Nana Acheampong, Gyakie carries a rich musical heritage that influences her work. “After Midnight” serves as her personal artistic statement, shaped during the quiet hours of the night when creativity flows most freely.
“Almost all the songs on the album were recorded after midnight,” Gyakie shares. “It is within those hours that I find my best inspiration to write. The peace and quiet, the sounds from the birds, the serenity, everything about that time fuels my creativity.”
The album features a narrative trailer directed by Alex Piper, who has worked with artists including Rema, Travis Scott, Wizkid and Skepta. The project includes previously released singles “Sankofa” and “Unconditional”.
The album welcomes collaborations with international and regional talents, including 6LACK, Kojey Radical, Omar Sterling, Headie One, Shatta Wale and Young Jonn. These partnerships create what the artist describes as “a convergence of cultures that speaks to the universality of music and its ability to bring people together.”
“This album is about becoming,” Gyakie says. “It’s about embracing all the versions of myself, the soft parts, the strong parts, the past, the present and the dreams I’m chasing. I hope people find pieces of themselves in these songs.”
Gyakie has built her reputation through unmistakable vocals and lyrical storytelling ability. She began her musical journey at age six and gained prominence with her breakout EP “Seed”, led by the 2x platinum chart-topping hit “Forever,” later remixed with Omah Lay.
Her second EP “My Diary” featured the gold-certified track “Something”, establishing her commercial viability alongside critical acclaim.
The artist has collaborated with notable figures including Davido, Diplo, Serge Ibaka, Major League DJz and AKA.
Her accolades include The Headies’ Best West African Artist award, and she has performed at prestigious venues and festivals across the US, UK, Europe and Africa, including The Global Citizen Festival, The Great Escape Festival, Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour and Afronation.
The release of “After Midnight” positions Gyakie to expand her influence in the global music stage while maintaining strong connections to her Ghanaian heritage and African musical identity.
