It was pomp and colour as four world champions returned home Tuesday afternoon with five gold medals from the just concluded World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, with a rapturous reception from family, friends, and government officials who turned up at the JKIA to welcome them home.

Beatrice Chebet with two gold medals in 5000m and 10000m, Lillian Odira and Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who bagged gold in 800m, and Faith Kipyegon, with 1500m gold and another silver in 5000m, were in the last group of Team Kenya, which finished 2nd at the championships with 7 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals.

After a spectacular show of brilliance in the just-concluded Tokyo World Athletics Championship, triumphant World champions jetted back home to a heroic welcome.

Beatrice Chebet with two gold medals in 5000m and 10000m, Lillian Odira and Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who bagged gold in 800m, and Faith Kipyegon, with 1500m gold and another silver in 5000m, were in the last group of Team Kenya.

Other medalists in Team Kenya were Faith Cherotich and Peres Jepchirchir, who reclaimed Kenya’s 3000m steeplechase and marathon gold medals for the 1st time since 2019. Dorcas Ewoi bagged the silver for Kenya in 1500 m, while Edmund Serem and Raynold Cheruiyot settled for bronze in 3000msc and 1500 m, respectively.

Equally, Chebet is still hungry for more track medals next year, following a splendid performance this year, having completed a 5000m and 10,000m double in both the Olympics and at the World Championships.
