Taifa Stars of Tanzania and the Carthage Eagles from Tunisia sailed through after drawing 1-1 in Group C, a result which saw Tunisia finish 2nd with 4 points behind Nigeria, who had a maximum 9 points after switching off the Uganda Cranes 3-1.
Tanzania qualified for the knockout stage in the competition’s history as one of the best 3rd-placed teams with only 2 points.
Two-time champions DR Congo finished 2nd in Group D with 7 points after humiliating Botswana 3-0, with Senegal winning the group on the same points but with a superior goal difference.
Tanzania faces hosts Morocco in the 2nd round, while Tunisia will take on Mali.
Seven-time champions Egypt have been drawn against Benin, while DR Congo will clash against Algeria.
The last four fixtures in the round of 16 will be confirmed on Wednesday after the conclusion of the group matches.
