China has called for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing conflict involving Iran, cautioning that continued military confrontation could escalate instability across the Middle East and beyond.
Addressing a press conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that China’s position on the crisis is clear: the fighting must stop, and the conflict should be resolved through dialogue.
Wang described the situation surrounding Iran as one of the most critical issues in global affairs today, stressing that armed confrontation provides no meaningful solutions and will only exacerbate regional tensions.
“The Middle East is engulfed in flames. This is a war that should not have happened; it is a war that does no one any good,” he cautioned, highlighting that the conflict will only intensify hostility and create new crises.
The foreign minister warned that escalating violence could spread throughout the broader Middle East and urged all parties to immediately cease military operations to prevent further escalation.
Wang outlined five principles that Beijing believes should guide efforts to resolve the conflict.
First, he emphasized the importance of respecting national sovereignty, asserting that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Iran and other Gulf countries must be upheld.
Second, he rejected the use of force to resolve disputes, stating that the “law of the jungle” should not govern international relations, and civilians must never become victims of armed conflict.
Third, he stressed the importance of non-interference in internal affairs, arguing that Middle Eastern countries should determine their own political futures without external intervention.
Most significantly, Wang called for a political settlement of disputes through negotiations, urging all parties to return to dialogue as soon as possible.
Additionally, he stated that major global powers must play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability rather than exacerbating tensions.
China maintains that political dialogue is the only viable path to ending the conflict. Wang expressed Beijing’s readiness to collaborate with countries in the region to advance the Global Security Initiative and promote long-term stability in the Middle East.
“As a sincere friend and strategic partner, China stands ready to work with Middle Eastern countries to implement the Global Security Initiative (GSI) and restore order to the Middle East,” he said.
The Chinese top diplomat reiterated that ending the fighting and pursuing diplomacy would not only stabilize the Middle East but also help safeguard global peace.
