The government plans to roll out a new platform to track all funding from development partners as part of its efforts to utilize spending.
The National Treasury and Economic Planning says the Development Partners Management Information System (DPMIS) which is expected to be rolled out this year will give the government a consolidated and more reliable picture of development partner resources flowing into Kenya, strengthening coordination, accountability and decision making.
“DPMIS is expected to be launched before the end of the year and will provide visibility on who is supporting what, where resources are being directed, what has been committed and what has actually been disbursed,” said Treasury.
With total grants are projected at Ksh 43.6 billion, equivalent to 0.2% of GDP in the current fiscal year alone, Treasury says the platform is intended to strengthen government’s ability to ensure that development partner support is aligned with national priorities.
During a meeting by ministry officials, National Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo noted that the system will further complements government programmes, minimises duplication and improves accountability for resources supporting Kenya’s development agenda.
He further directed that priority be given to data quality, timeliness, completeness and coverage, alongside strengthening institutional mechanisms for timely reporting, validation and coordination of development partner information.
Once operational, DPMIS is expected to enhance the quality of information available to Government for planning, coordination, oversight and decision making, while providing a stronger basis for assessing the contribution of development partner resources to national development priorities.
