Edukans Kenya and The Kisumu National Polytechnic have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a joint initiative aimed at equipping the youth green skills in the textile sector.
The initiative dubbed Wear the Green Future (WtGF) project, is expected to benefit 2,300 young people and seeks to transform the textile and fashion sector by embedding sustainability and circular economy principles into technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
“Through this initiative, 2,300 young people will be trained and empowered with essential green skills, preparing them to drive sustainable practices and innovation within the industry,” said representatives from both institutions during the signing ceremony.
The two institutions will co-develop a Green Skills Curriculum in a bid to transforming how fashion is taught and practiced in Kenya.
The curriculum focuses on Sustainable fashion design, eco-friendly production processes, waste reduction and management, as well as circular innovation in the textile sector.
“This collaboration strengthens the quality and relevance of TVET programming while supporting Kenya’s broader commitment to promoting green jobs and sustainable economic development.”
