President William Ruto has nominated Erastus Edung Ethekon for the position of Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Felix Koskei, Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff at State House, confirmed that President Ruto settled on Edung from a shortlist of two candidates provided by the IEBC selection panel.
In a notification, Koskei also announced that the President has nominated candidates to fill six Member positions on the Commission. The candidates are Ann Njeri Nderitu, Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor Hassan, Francis Odhiambo Aduol, and Fahima Araphat Abdallah.
“This presidential action follows the recommendations of the Selection Panel regarding the recruitment of nominees for the positions of Chairperson and Members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, as transmitted on Tuesday, 6th May 2025,” stated Koskei.
The nominations have been forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration and approval by Parliament, in accordance with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act and the Public Appointments Act.
“In recognition of the indispensable role of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as one of the cornerstone institutions of our democracy and a custodian of electoral management, His Excellency the President as urged the National Assembly to prioritize the consideration of these nominations,” Koskei said.
