The First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto, Thursday extended the pilot school milk program to Nakuru County benefitting Testai Primary School and Menengai Comprehensive School.
Every child in the pilot schools will enjoy a packet of milk twice a week for one year.
This is part of the First Lady’s initiative, “Feed One, End Hunger,” which supports schools in becoming food-sufficient through food production on school grounds and supplementary projects like the pilot National School Milk program.
This initiative aims to boost the enrollment and retention of children in school, in line with the Government’s 100% enrollment policy.
The Nakuru County phase of the school milk program is supported by New KCC Limited and Devyani Foods Limited, manufacturers of the Daima dairy products.
The First Lady further donated a truckload of food supplies to support the school feeding program and established a kitchen and fruit garden in the school.
Dr Paul Ronoh, Principal Secretary of the State Department of Agriculture, thanked the First Lady for championing food security in public primary schools.
He further announced plans by the State Department of Agriculture to support the establishment of 10,000 kitchen gardens in schools and community centres that will be launched in April 2025.
Other leaders present during the event included Liza Chelule, Women’s Representative, Nakuru County; Paul Chebor, Member of Parliament, Rongai Constituency; Samuel Gachobe, Member of Parliament, Subukia constituency; and Margaret Kibogy, Managing Director of Kenya Dairy Board.
