Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro is mourning the death of his father, Mzee Gideon Baya Mung’aro, who passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
Mung’aro who shared the heartbreaking news on his social media platforms, the loss as “a deeply painful moment.”
“Today, on Father’s Day, I lost my father Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior. It’s a deeply painful moment,” he wrote.
“But I’m truly grateful for the love, support, and prayers from family, friends, and all who have reached out. Your kindness is helping us through this difficult time. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.”
The late Mzee Mung’aro, aged 89, died at the Kilifi County Referral Hospital.
He was a former Senior Chief of Gede Location and is fondly remembered for his leadership and longstanding commitment to community service.
Condolence messages have continued to pour in from leaders across the country.
ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga paid tribute to the late elder, describing him as a visionary who embodied unity and stood up for the rights of the Mijikenda community as a Kaya elder.
“On behalf of my family, the ODM fraternity, and on my own behalf, I wish to extend heartfelt condolences to Governor Mung’aro, his family, and the people of Kilifi County. May God grant you peace during this difficult time of mourning,” he stated.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga who is also the ODM National Chairman sent her condolences stating, “ I extend my deepest condolences to Governor Mung’aro and the family, on behalf of the people of Homa Bay County and my own. May you find strength in the cherished memories and enduring legacy of your beloved father. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, the people of Kilifi and your entire family and may God’s comfort bring you peace.”
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir mourned Mzee Mung’aro as a respected elder who “served the greater Gede location with distinction and left behind a legacy of honour, service, and community leadership. May God grant you strength, comfort, and peace.”
