A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling an 8-year-old girl in Laikipia.
The accused, who was the family’s herder, committed the offence on August 26, 2024 at Chumvi Centre in Laikipia North Sub-County.
The Prosecution called five witnesses who provided detailed evidence on how the offence was discovered and linked to the accused.
While delivering judgment, Hon. Lisper Gakii of the Nanyuki Law Courts noted that the victim had suffered psychological trauma and that her dignity had been grossly violated.
In her testimony, the victim recounted that during the August 2024 school holidays, she was in the kitchen when the accused returned home.
He found her near the window, took her to a bed where he normally slept and committed the act while covering her mouth to stop her from screaming.
She later informed her mother after noticing blood while urinating and was immediately taken to hospital.
The victim’s mother testified that she was in the main house at the time, while her daughter was in the separate kitchen.
She learned from her daughter that the accused had returned home that evening, sent her elder brother to herd goats, and remained behind with the victim, thus taking advantage of the situation.
