The much-anticipated Mashemeji derby between host Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards ended in a 1-1 stalemate on Monday evening at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County.

Austin Oduor gave the home team the lead in the 31st minute, but Ingwe’s midfielder Bernard Wanyama tied the score five minutes into the second half.

The teams also settled for a barren draw in the 1st leg at the Nyayo Stadium in March this year.

The result dented Gor’s chances of defending their title, leaving them with no room for error.

K’ogalo must win their final two fixtures against Ulinzi Stars and Police FC and hope leaders Police, lose their last two fixtures against Shabana and against them to bag their 22nd premier league title.

Gor will visit Ulinzi on the 11th of this month before concluding the season against their rivals Police FC 4 days later.

Conversely, Police FC only needs one point from the two remaining games to hold Gor at bay.

Police could also be declared champions from the 1st time even if they lose both matches, provided Gor Mahia doesn’t collect a maximum points in their remaining matches.

Police still leads the table with 61 points from 32 matches, followed by Gor on 55 points, the same as Tusker FC, who lie 3rd.
