The Ministry of Education has assured the country that the ongoing national examinations will not be affected by the ongoing heavy rains in various parts of the country.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba told the National Assembly Education Committee that the Ministry has put measures in place to ensure the national examinations are not disrupted.

CS Ogomba revealed that they have dispatched choppers and four-wheeled vehicles, which will be on standby in areas prone to floods.

He said the ministry requires an additional Ksh 3.7 billion to effectively manage the national examinations.

Earlier, Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo, who was at Starehe Deputy County Commissioners’ office in Nairobi to oversee the opening of the examination papers, said they are partnering with the Ministry of ICT to ensure the social media platforms are not used to advance exam cheating.

Elsewhere, 17 teenage girls in Igembe Constituency Meru County, have sat for their grade 6 examination KPSEA in maternity wards at Nyambene hospital.

Over 1.29 million learners in Grade 6 are sitting for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment KPSEA while 1.13 million learners in Grade 9 are writing the inaugural Kenya Junior School Education Assessment KJSEA that will determine placement in senior schools previously known as high schools.
