One body has been retrieved after a septic tank collapsed on Sunday beneath a local football viewing hall in Bamburi Mwisho area, Nyali Constituency, Mombasa County.
The body of 54-year-old Abdallah Aziz Abdallah was recovered around 12:49 am this morning. It is the first body to be retrieved from the scene following the tragedy over the weekend.
The body was taken to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue awaiting a postmortem and further processing.
Preliminary assessments have established that the football viewing hall was an unauthorized structure, operating without a valid trading permit.
Mombasa county chief fire officer Ibrahim Basafar yesterday said that the septic tank was approximately 120 feet deep.
