President Ruto to embark on five-day Mt. Kenya development tour, Tuesday

President William Ruto is set to visit Central Kenya for a working tour from Tuesday 1st – 5th of April 2025.

During his tour, the Head of State, is expected to commission completed projects, inspect ongoing ones and launch others under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

Some of the projects include roads, affordable housing, fresh produce markets, last mile electricity connectivity, water and irrigation, among others.

The tour will cover nine counties namely; Laikipia, Nyeri, Meru, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Kiambu.

In a statement, the President will issue title deeds in Kieni, Nyeri County and Tigania West in Meru County, inspect ongoing construction of the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIPS) in Laikipia West and Githunguri in Kiambu, as well as Special Economic Zone in Maragua, Murang’a County.

According to the statement, the government is funding 47 CAIPS nationwide at Ksh 500 million each, alongside six SEZs for manufacturing and value addition including in pharmaceuticals.

“The National Government and counties are collaborating in the construction of 47 CAIPS, one in each county at a cost of Ksh 500 million each, with each level of government paying half to provide the necessary space and infrastructure for investors in many economic aspects, including manufacturing and value addition of agricultural produce.” The statement read.

Adding that: “Already, the government is already building six new SEZs in Dongo Kundu, Mombasa County, Sagana in Kirinyaga, Thika Kiambu, Naivasha, Nakuru, Eldoret in Uasin Gishu and Nasewa in Busia County.”

President Ruto will also inspect ongoing water, sanitation and sewerage programmes in Igembe South (Meru), Maragua in Murang’a and Mbeere North (Embu).

The President’s itinerary also includes visiting livestock feedlots in Tigania West and South Imenti (Meru), meant to boost the livestock value chain and the government’s support for farmers to produce quality meat, hides and skins especially for the European Union and Middle East markets.

Similarly, President Ruto will tour the incomplete JM Memorial Hospital in Ol Kalou in Nyandarua County.

Various affordable housing projects will be inspected or launched in Laikipia East, Ol Kalou and Kinangop, Kandara and Maragua, Chuka Igambang’ombe as well as Nyeri Town.

There are close to 500 markets being built nationally, he will are being built and he will visit some of these modern fresh produce markets in various stages of completion in Kieni, Laikipia East, Igembe South and Tigania East, Kirinyaga Central, Kinangop and Chuka Igambang’ombe.

Further, the President will launch various Last Mile Electricity Connectivity projects in Laikipia West, Kieni, South Imenti, Kirinyaga Central, Ol Kalou and Manyatta.
