Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has urged Kenyans to ignore claims by opposition leaders that the country is not doing well economically.

Speaking during a relief food distribution exercise in Balambala sub county, Garissa, the CS who was flanked by Garissa Woman Representative Udgoon Siyaad, MPs Shurie Omar (Balambala) and Mohamed Abdikadir Hussein (Lagdera) among other local leaders said that the achievements of the current government are clearly visible to all Kenyans.

“The president has done a lot of work to uplift the economy of the country from where he found it when he assumed office. Prices of basic commodities have significantly reduced, the prices of Unga and cooking oil were high but now the president has made sure that the prices come down,” Ruku said.

“Inflation rate has also reduced from 9.6 percent to 3.8 per cent, fuel prices which were over Sh 200 have reduced too while at the same time prices for coffee and tea have gone up so that our farmers get more money from their produce,” he added.

Garissa woman Representative cautioned the opposition remarks against making utterances that could incite the public noting that it is a sign that they are sensing defeat in the 2027 general elections.

Siyaad said that the ‘ground’ is not a particular region only and that all other leaders are also listening to their people in order to improve their livelihoods.

“The allegations that if President Ruto wins a second term there would be bloodshed is a lie. That is a character of people who do not accept when they are fairly defeated,” Siyaad said.

“If you allege that if someone wins you will not accept, you have already sensed defeat. If they say that they are listening to the ground, then we also have our own ground where we are listening to what our people want,” she added.

On his part, Balambala MP Shurie Omar urged the president to consider giving cabinet slots to politicians in future because they have ‘proved’ competent in leadership skills and service delivery to the people.

During the event, 300 50-kg bags of rice and 250 50-kg bags of beans and other assorted household items were distributed to the most vulnerable members of the public.
