UDA opens applications for ward elections slated for May 18

The party has held grassroots elections across five counties

United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA) has invited interested members to apply for various leadership positions across all wards in Nairobi, Narok, West Pokot, Homabay, and Busia counties.

The ruling party says the polls will be held next week on Saturday, May 18, hence those interested have until Wednesday to apply for the positions.

The grassroots polls held last week in Nairobi, Narok, Busia and West Pokot were cancelled over various reasons including flash floods.

Elected polling centre officials, UDA elected and nominated MCAs are the only ones eligible to contest for the 12 positions.

“Note that elected and nominated MCAs must contest for the ward positions and are not automatic officials. We encourage all eligible members to participate in these elections. Your active involvement is crucial in shaping the future of our party and ensuring effective leadership at the ward level” said (UDA) National Elections Board chairman Antony Mwaura.

Applications are online via the UDA registration portal.

The positions up for grabs are Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson (each of opposite gender), Secretary and Deputy Secretary (each of opposite gender), Treasurer and Organizing Secretary.

Others are representatives of Youth, Women, PWDs, MSMEs, Farmers, Religious groups and Professionals.

Seven additional members with at least three of the opposite gender will be picked.

Mwaura said details on the specific venues per ward will be communicated in due course.
