vivo Kenya has unveiled the vivo Y500, a new mid-range smartphone that aims to address one of the biggest frustrations among mobile users—battery life. The handset debuts with an 8,100mAh BlueVolt battery, which the company says is the largest battery currently available in a smartphone on the Kenyan market.
With smartphones increasingly serving as tools for communication, business, digital payments, education and content creation, the Y500 is positioned for users who need extended battery performance without frequent charging. According to vivo, the large-capacity battery is designed to support long hours of productivity, entertainment and everyday use.
Beyond battery life, the Y500 introduces a new Privacy System that gives users greater control over personal information stored on their devices. The feature is intended to enhance security by allowing users to better protect sensitive data such as banking applications, passwords, private conversations, work documents and family photos, particularly when sharing the phone with others.
The smartphone also features a 1.5K AMOLED display with a peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits, offering improved visibility in bright outdoor environments. The high-brightness screen is designed to enhance everyday tasks, including messaging, navigation, video streaming and social media browsing under direct sunlight.
Durability is another key selling point. The vivo Y500 comes with Military-Grade Protection and carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. The device is built to withstand accidental drops, exposure to dust, rain and water, making it suitable for users with active lifestyles or those working in demanding environments. It also supports underwater photography, enabling users to capture photos and videos in wet conditions.
The Y500 is available in Silk White and Midnight Blue, with two memory configurations: 6GB RAM with 256GB storage and 8GB RAM with 256GB storage.
Pricing starts at KSh 44,999 for the 6GB/256GB model, while the 8GB/256GB variant retails at KSh 49,999. The smartphone is now available through authorised vivo stores and retail partners across Kenya.
The launch reflects growing competition in Kenya’s smartphone market, where manufacturers are increasingly differentiating their devices through larger batteries, enhanced durability and privacy-focused features as consumers demand longer-lasting and more versatile smartphones.
