Kisumu, Kenya – The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Kenya, Guo Haiyan, has called on Chinese nationals operating in the Nyanza region to adhere strictly to Kenyan laws, actively integrate into local society, and contribute meaningfully to the region’s development.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the Chinese community in Kisumu on Monday, Ambassador Guo noted that the Chinese government mandates all Chinese enterprises abroad to fully comply with the laws and customs of their host countries and to serve as ambassadors of goodwill and development within the communities they inhabit.
The meeting, which coincided with the Dragon Boat Festival celebrations in China, gathered members of the Kenya Overseas Chinese Association– Kisumu branch, led by Director Gu Qinjun.
The Ambassador extended festive greetings and encouraged the association members to embody the industrious spirit of the Chinese people by remaining hardworking, cooperative, and respectful of local cultures. Guo also challenged the community to engage in grassroots initiatives that align with Kenya’s development priorities.

Later in the day, the Ambassador visited Kisii County, where she held discussions with Governor Simba Arati and county officials. The talks focused on enhancing investment opportunities and exploring new economic prospects in the region.
“We discussed ways to further deepen and strengthen our robust partnership. Fantastic to meet so many Kisii people interested in China and support the friendship between China and Kenya,” the Ambassador shared.
The envoy was among diplomats and other dignitaries who attended the 2024 Madaraka Day celebrations in Homa Bay County, led by President William Ruto at Raila Odinga Stadium. The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar, also graced the celebrations.
“I extend heartfelt congratulations to all Kenyans on this important day marking self-governance and national progress. We celebrate Kenya’s achievements over the past 62 years with great admiration,” she stated.
The envoy’s tour comes amid China’s ongoing emphasis on people-to-people diplomacy, economic partnerships, and mutual respect in foreign relations.
