Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya on Friday bade farewell to outgoing Kenya Air Force Commander Major General (Rtd) Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed at Defence Headquarters.

Major General (Rtd) Fatuma Ahmed has retired from the Kenya Defence Forces after 42 years of distinguished service that saw her rise through the ranks to become the country’s first female Kenyan military officer to become a Major General in 2018.

Last year, Major General (Rtd) Fatuma Ahmed yet again made history when she was appointed Kenya’s first female Service Commander of a Kenya Defence Forces formation, Kenya Air Force.

Given her achievements in the military, Major General (Rtd) Fatuma Ahmed is a Kenyan trailblazer and icon whose professional exploits are an inspiration to a generation of women in the security sector.
