Team Kenya Co-captain Clinton Aluvi Wamatinya, claimed a gold medal in the 100m final in the under-20 category on the 2nd day of the third Confederation of African Athletics U18/U20 Athletics championships at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, yesterday night.
Determined, Aluvi stormed to victory in style with a personal best time of 10.42 seconds to clinch gold ahead of South African Letebele Karabo and John Caleb of Nigeria, who settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
Cynthia Chepkirui from Lemotit camp in Kericho County continued with her scintillating form as she needed a sprint finish to snatch gold in the 3000m under 18 category in 9:26.35 minutes.
Emannuel Lemiso and Brian Kiptoo delivered gold and silver for Kenya in the 2000m steeplechase under 18 category respectively.

Kenyans also won silver medals in the 1500m under 20 men and women, with Owan Logorodi, finishing 2nd in the men’s final behind Jahoud JHNCHINA of Morocco, and Ugandan Jacob Sande claimed bronze.
Sheila Chepngetich won silver in the women’s final won by Ugandan Nancy Cheppwurui as her teammate Brenda Chepkwemoi bagged bronze.
Chepngetich also took a 2nd silver for Kenya in the 3000m under 20, in a time of 8:43.98, behind Ugandan Bentalin Yeko, who emerged victorious in 8:45.99, while bronze went to Moroccan Asmaa Bassou.
The championship continues today as Kenya aims to surpass its 2023 results in Ndola, Zambia.
Meanwhile, CAA has announced Algeria as the host for the 2027 edition of the U18/U20 championship.
Algeria withdrew from staging this year’s event at the last minute before the championships were moved to Nigeria.
