Africa Champions South Africa and Nigeria advanced to the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile following the conclusion of the group matches early on Monday.
South Africa settled for a 2nd position in group E on 6 points after beating the group winners, the USA, 2-1, in the last match played on Sunday night, while France eased past New Caledonia 6-0, to book their ticket amongst the best 3rd-placed teams.
In Group D Argentina won their 3rd match, emerging 1-0 victors over 2nd-placed Italy, while Australia thrashed Cuba 3-1 to sail through to the knockouts.
Nigeria and Colombia settled for a 1-1 draw in Group F as the African side finished 3rd on 4 points, qualifying for the round of 16.
Norway was also forced to a 1-1 draw against the already eliminated Saudi Arabia in another group’s match.
The tournament returns on Tuesday with the round of 16 matches as Spain tussles with Ukraine while Colombia faces South Africa on the 8th.
Nigeria will take on six-time winners Argentina, with Mexico facing hosts Chile on 8th October.
Italy will play the USA, while Norway tackles Paraguay,as Japan will lock horns against France on the 9th October.
Morocco will wind up the round of 16 fixtures against South Korea on 10th October.
