The Ministry of Defense has committed to conducting a Nationwide Military Recruitment Exercise that is above reproach.

Speaking during the launch at the Defense Headquarters in Nairobi, Defense Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya reiterated that every eligible Kenyan should participate, promising a level playing field for all candidates.

“The recruitment process is designed to be fair, transparent, and inclusive, ensuring that every qualified Kenyan is accorded an opportunity to serve our country, to turn out in large numbers for the exercise,” Tuya stated.

According to the CS, the exercise scheduled to run from October 13 for two-weeks across all 47 counties, is free of charge. Tuya affirmed, “We do not ask for bribes, we do not accept bribes, and we do not offer bribes.”

She further warned, “Any attempt to influence the process—whether by candidates, their families, or any other parties, will result in automatic disqualification and legal prosecution.”

Addressing past concerns surrounding allegations of fraud and corruption in previous recruitment efforts, Tuya assured the public that such allegations have been thoroughly investigated and those found guilty will face legal consequences.

“Any attempt to influence the process by any party involved, be it parents, guardians, or candidates, will result in automatic disqualification and subsequent prosecution. The integrity of this process is non-negotiable,” she cautioned, adding, “Anyone engaging in such practices is a criminal and should be treated as such.”

She said it was is unfortunate that innocent civilians have been duped in the past, resulting in financial losses to unscrupulous individuals. However, she pledged that measures are in place to prevent similar incidents in the current and future campaigns.

“We are working closely with agencies such as the National Police Service, DCI, EACC, and NIS to ensure that this process is credible and free from manipulation,” Tuya remarked.

The Ministry of Defense says it is determined to protect Kenyans and ensure that merit guides entry into the KDF. Tuya indicated that the exercise aims to replenish KDF’s ranks and build a force that reflects the country’s diversity while upholding national security and stability.

In addition to increasing numbers, the CS noted that the recruitment exercise focuses on identifying the best-qualified youth who embody the values of discipline, patriotism, and the courage to serve.
