All set ahead of County Assemblies Games in Meru County

Stage is set ahead of the 6th edition of County Assemblies Games ,CASA Games, which officially kicked off Monday  at Kinoru Stadium, Meru County.

The event began with a march-past by participants around the stadium, followed by a moment of silence to honor the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the Senior Sergeant-at-Arms of Kilifi County Assembly, who had travelled with the team to Meru fell sick and succumbed at a hospital in Meru Town.

Speaking at the event, Meru Governor  Isaac Mutuma highlighted this year’s CASA games theme:  “Harnessing the power of sports and culture to reignite hope and restoration in times of crisis.” He noted that the theme resonates deeply with the current economic and social challenges facing the country.

Governor Mutuma emphasized that sports serve as a unifying force, bringing counties together not as rivals or political factions, but as teammates, compatriots, and one people—Kenyans united under a shared destiny.

The governor further described the CASA games as more than a competition, calling them a national reunion and an opportunity for healing, connection, and reaffirming unity.

He urged the people of Meru County to seize the economic opportunities presented by the 10-day event.

Meru County Assembly Speaker and CASA Patron Ayub Bundi declared the County was ready to host the Championship.

Bundi expressed condolences to the Kilifi County Assembly following the passing of their Senior Sergeant-at-Arms and announced that the Kilifi team would be excused to leave Meru tomorrow to accompany the deceased’s body for burial preparations.

CASA Chairman Hon. Peter Imwatok expressed gratitude to the Meru County Government for their warm hospitality.

Hon. Imwatok reaffirmed CASA’s commitment to promoting sports among county assembly staff and MCAs, adding that such events foster the exchange of ideas to improve devolution while also providing an opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation.
