Kenya is set to host the prestigious World Rafting Cup in July after a meeting between the Kenya Rafting Federation,KRF, and World Rafting Federation officials in Aosta,Italy.
The Kenyan leg will be the third round of the three event series.The other two rounds are set to be staged in France and Italy in April and June respectively.
The Kenyan delegation was led by KRF secretary general William Kinuthia who was accompanied by Sports ministry offficial Dennis Munuve who met held discussions with WRF president Danilo Barmaz.
”The World Rafting Federation (WRF) and a high-level Kenyan delegation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) officially awarding Kenya the hosting rights for the July 2026 World Rafting Cup, the third leg of the global World Cup series’’, A statement by the KRF and sent to the media read in part.
The awarding of the global event to Kenya is a significant step in the country realisng its potential and the future of watersports interlinked with Kenya’s push for optimization of Blue Economy.
The move elevates Kenya into the global rafting spotlight, bringing wide-ranging benefits.The event is set to increase international tourism and sports travel as well as expand opportunities for youth and push for athlete development and will also act as a showcase of African rivers as competitive venues.
Kenya is expected to put up a spectacular event with joint Kenya and Global rafting body,WRF expected to get down to business in earnest.
Among the key factors that will encompass the preparations phase include: River inspections and safety assessments, Infrastructure and logistics planning and Technical official training.
Kenya succefully hosted the 2025 Africa Rafting Championship on River Sagana,Muranga County and will be banking on the experiences gained to host a global event.
