The daughter of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) boss Captain William Ruto, Mitchell Jelimo Kemboi will be buried this Friday at their Kabarak home in Nakuru County.
Jelimo, born in 2007, died on Friday evening following a tragic road accident in Taita Taveta that left her father and siblings hospitalised.
Funeral arrangements are ongoing, with friends and relatives meeting daily at their Mochongoi home in Eldama Ravine from 2:00 p.m.
According to the programme shared ahead of the interment, a fundraiser to support burial expenses will be held on Tuesday at the Mochongoi home starting at 2:00 p.m.
The body will leave Mombasa for Nakuru on Wednesday, ahead of a funeral service scheduled for Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
The tragic news was announced by KPA, which assured the public that the CEO and his children were out of danger and receiving medical care under close supervision.
“We are deeply saddened to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William K. Ruto, was involved in a tragic road accident yesterday evening while travelling with his family,” the statement read in part.
“Regrettably, his daughter did not survive the accident. We extend our thoughts and deepest condolences to Capt. Ruto and his family during this time of immense grief.”
KPA further noted that it is fully cooperating with relevant authorities as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen visited the family in the hospital.
“I condoled with Captain Ruto and wished him and other members of his family a quick recovery. The doctors assured me that the MD and his two children are out of danger and that they should be out of the hospital soon,” Murkomen said.
Murkomen said the vehicle collided with a stationary trailer that had no signage, adding that the family members were five in total.
Captain Ruto, a veteran mariner with over three decades of service at the Kenya Ports Authority, was reappointed recently for a second term as Managing Director.
