Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Okello has completed a move to Moroccan giants AS FAR Rabat from Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC (Yanga), in a deal reportedly worth $1.5 million (about KShs 194 million).

The 26-year-old’s departure comes just seven months after he arrived at Yanga from Ugandan side Vipers SC in January, in a deal worth roughly $300,000 (about KShs38.84 million). The sale to AS FAR represents a significant return on investment for the Tanzanian champions, turning their initial outlay into a package worth nearly five times what they paid for him.

Okello’s rise in value follows an outstanding half-season at Jangwani Street, where he finished as Yanga’s leading scorer with 14 league goals and eight assists in 23 appearances, helping the club retain the NBC Premier League title.

Moroccan rivals Wydad Casablanca had also chased his signature, tabling a $700,000 bid, but AS FAR ultimately met Yanga’s $1 million valuation of the player to seal the deal.

At his new club, Okello reunites with Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves, under whom he previously won the league title during their time together at Yanga. The pair’s reunion in the Botola Pro will be seen as a key factor behind the move, with Okello set to test himself once again in North African football following a previous, less successful spell in Algeria with Paradou AC between 2020 and 2023.

Yanga have already moved to fill the gap left by his departure, bringing back Burkinabe midfielder Stéphane Aziz Ki for a second spell at the club after his return from Libyan side Al Ittihad Tripoli.

Confirming the sale, Yanga president Hersi Said praised Okello’s brief but impactful spell at the club and left the door open for a future return to Dar es Salaam.
