Government takes over construction and completion of Isiolo Stadium

Isiolo stadium has been added to the list of sporting facilities getting a facelift as the country gets closer to hosting two major continental football tournaments; the 2024 African Nations Championship in August and the 2027 Africa cup of Nations.

The two tournaments will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

After six years of non activity, the Government, through the Ministry of Sports, has officially taken over the construction and completion of Isiolo Stadium.

During an extensive inspection of the facility on Thursday afternoon, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya directed Sports Kenya to develop new architectural designs for a modern stadium that meets international standards within two weeks.

Once submitted, the government will initiate the necessary procedures to commence construction of the project.

The Leaders who were present, led by Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo, welcomed the move, noting that it will rejuvenate the hopes and aspirations of talents within the local community, particularly the youth who are passionate about sports.

More than 10 stadiums are being renovated in addition to the Talanta City stadium that is being built from ground by the Kenyan government, on top of 37 talent academies that will be built across the country , in the governments endeavour to identify and nurture talents.
