Burkina Faso qualifies for the FIFA U17 World Cup

The West Africans edged Egypt 2-1 on Thursday evening to book their place in the knockout stages and FIFA World Cup finals with a game to spare, registering their 2nd win in Group B.

Burkina Faso became the first African nation to book their ticket to the FIFA U-17 World Cup after qualifying for the AFCON U-17 quarter-final.

The West Africans edged Egypt 2-1 on Thursday evening to book their place in the knockout stages and FIFA World Cup finals with a game to spare, registering their 2nd win in Group B.

Burkina Faso took the lead of the cagey encounter via Isouf Dabo’s 41st-minute goal before Asharaf Tapsoba doubled the lead in the 69th minute .

The Egyptians pulled one back 12 minutes from time through Belal Ateya’s strike.

Zambia forced a scoreless draw against hosts Morocco in a Group A encounter, while in another encounter Uganda got the better of Tanzania after beating them 3-0 in the East African derby, with the Ugandans reviving their chances for the quarter final .

Round two group matches conclude today with Gambia facing Somalia in Group C from 5PM before Tunisia tackle defending champions Senegal at 8PM.

In Group D, Angola will play Ivory Coast as Mali entertains Central African Republic, both matches playing concurrently from 8pm.

The top 10 nations will book their slots in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup set for late this year in Qatar.
