The Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and climate-smart health solutions that guarantee sustainable and equitable access to healthcare for all Kenyans.

Speaking after hosting a delegation from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), led by Regional Director Shaheen Nilofer, Duale underscored the government’s focus on innovative partnerships such as the Health Facility Solar Electrification (HFSE) initiative, first unveiled at the World Health Assembly in Geneva.

In a statement, Duale says the programme will solarize 2,000 health facilities in its initial phase, with a scale-up target of 4,000, prioritising immunisation service points to guarantee reliable, round-the-clock healthcare in even the most remote areas.

“This climate-smart initiative advances the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) by creating local jobs, strengthening immunisation cold chains, reducing reliance on diesel, cutting carbon emissions and boosting staff motivation, while ensuring uninterrupted health service delivery.” He said.

Similarly, the CS noted that the programme reinforces the Taifa Care model by enabling safe childbirth, reproductive health, digitised services and lower operational costs.

“I commended the UNICEF for its steadfast support and reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and climate-smart health solutions that deliver lasting impact for our people.”

He was joined in the meeting by Director General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth and Ministry’s Head of Family Health Dr Bashir Isaak.
