Record Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions Gor Mahia will be targeting to rediscover their form after going down 0-1 to Bidco United in their opening league fixture last weekend.

Gor Mahia succumbed to the loss leaving their fan base purring and will be  out for a turn around when they face  2009 Champions Sofapaka Saturday at Dandora Stadium.

Ghanian head coach Charles Akonor say the defeat against Bidco was an eye opener promising for a response against Sofapaka who drew 1-1 with AFC Leopards in their league opener last weekend.

‘’The pressure has been very good.It was a wake up call for us in our first match honestly I don’t have anything to blame the boys they did what we asked them to do only that we couldn’t score’’.

Akonor said that they have worked on what couldn’t work against Bidco.

‘’We continued with preparations from last week and we want to improve what we did last time and so we have worked on sharpening our scoring abilities. Football without pressure won’t be anywhere and more so its Gor Mahia. We have to win because if you don’t win then there will be questions’’.

Gor Mahia captain Philemon Otieno urged Kogallo fans to remain steady even  in the face of defeat or glory.

‘’We want to urge the fans to continue supporting the team, the league is a marathon and we are going to do all we can to get the desired result’’,Philemon remarked.

‘’We are well prepared we will be going for the win against Sofapaka. We are as well disappointed from the opening match and we promise to bounce back’’ goalkeeper Bryne Omondi added.

Kakamega Homeboyz seek perfect start in league opener

Kakamega Homeboyz will face a stern test when they open their 2025/26 league season away against Mara Sugar.

Assistant head coach Paul Okatwa expressed confidence in his squad which is a mixture of youth and experience.

‘’ We are confident that we will get the positive result because we have a well oiled team that’s a blend of young and senior players which is an advantage to any team.Last season we finished 3rd and we believe that coming to this season we want to better the result and fight for the league title’’,Okatwa said.

However Kakamega Homeboyz will be without key midfielder Kevin Amwayi who is out injured as well as Gospel Otieno Okoth.

‘’First game last season we faced Mara away and we are playing them again this season we are looking for the positive result after being beaten last season by them’’Okatwa opined.

Kakamega Homeboyz captain Moses Mudavadi believes that the squad is going to build the momentum they created last season saying a good  start to the campaign matters.

‘’We are ready. We are not new in the league, we are an experienced side having gotten good results in the past seasons.we have targets that we have set and we will be aiming for history though I know that it wont be easy but what must happen is the focus from the players in the match against Mara Sugar’’,Mudavadi said.

Mudavadi however was warried of Mara Sugar.

‘’We faced them last season and they comprehensively defeated us and their current coach used to be here at Kakamega Homeboyz he’s a coach who knows us well. But we will fight for the points and we are hopeful of getting the win’’Mudavadi added.
