Governor Fatuma Achani has officially launched the distribution of seeds to farmers across all the 20 wards at the Kwale Headquarters office.
A total of 45 tonnes of seeds were issued to be distributed to farmers across the entire county.
Speaking at the event, Governor Achani reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to supporting farmers, emphasizing that agriculture remains a priority for economic growth and food security.
Achani encouraged farmers to take advantage of the initiative to improve productivity, especially with the anticipated rains.
“As the government, we plan to equip our farmers with the necessary tools for planting as we welcome the long awaited rains”, said Governor Achani.
On his part, CEC Agriculture Roman Shera praised the county government’s efforts and urged farmers to make full use of the provided seeds.
He highlighted that the long-awaited rains present an opportunity for increased agricultural production which will assist farmers domestically and commercially.
Mercy Chalika, a local farmer expressed gratitude to the government for the initiative, stating that the seeds will greatly benefit the community.
“I encourage fellow farmers to plant and take advantage of the government’s agricultural support”, she said.
The seed distribution is a collaborative effort between the Department of Agriculture and Department of Lands, Environment and Natural resources under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program to support farmers by providing seeds, likely as part of efforts to enhance climate resilience.

This initiative will help farmers adopt drought-resistant crops, improve food security, and strengthen adaptation to climate change.
The distribution of seeds includes maize, cowpeas, green grams and rice.
To ensure the success of the farming season, the county government has put in place additional support, including training programs for farmers, provision of seeds and fertilizers, tractor services to assist with land preparation and has employed extension officers to offer technical support to farmers.
With these measures, the Kwale County government aims to boost food production and improve the livelihoods of local farmers.
