Immigration DG: Kenya at the forefront of embracing e-passports

The Director General Immigration services now says the country is swiftly moving to digital migration and E-services in issuing passports to both Kenyans and foreigners.

The Director Everlyn Cheluget disclosed that Kenya has made a breakthrough in issuing E-passport services. She said the E-services will enable the Ministry of Immigration to access the passports held by foreigners and Kenyans across the border.

She urged Kenyans to adapt the system as will ease congestion at the migration border points.

The Kenyan delegation led by Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services, Ambassador Julius Bitok met with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD) Ceremony in Montreal, Canada.

During the occasion the Kenyan delegates paid a courtesy call to Mr. Juan Carlos Salazar, the Secretary-General of ICAO with their discussion centering on Kenya’s active engagement in global civil aviation.

According to Cheluget the event is significant and involves the depositing of Kenya’s electronic signature for the e-Passport into the ICAO PKD database, which is a crucial step towards facilitating electronic validation of E-Passports globally.
