The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Parliamentary engagements between Kenya and Iran.

Speaking Thursday morning during a courtesy call by H.E. (Dr.) Ali Gholampour, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kenya, Speaker Wetang’ula emphasized the importance of collaboration through the Kenya-Iran Parliamentary Group.

“It is essential for Members of Parliament from both countries to meet, exchange ideas, and reinforce Parliamentary ties, fostering deeper bilateral engagements,” he stated.

Ambassador Gholampour underscored Iran’s significant role in importing pharmaceutical products and advancing agricultural development through exhibitions.

Acknowledging the long-standing and cordial relationship between Kenya and Iran, marked by active cooperation in trade, education, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals, the two leaders agreed to explore additional areas of collaboration.

“We have agreed to strengthen our partnership by enhancing direct market access for key commodities such as oil, tea, and coffee, among other areas of mutual interest,” Dr. Wetang’ula noted.

The Speaker also highlighted the critical role of the Joint Commission Cooperation in overseeing bilateral initiatives between Iran and other nations.

He further emphasized that the upcoming Iran-Africa Conference and Expo present valuable opportunities to explore new partnerships, while the Kenya-Iran Conference will enhance diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations.
