The Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency, in collaboration with Athletics Kenya, have today officially flagged off a delegation of elite Kenyan athletes traveling to Japan to support Kenya’s participation at Expo 2025 Osaka.
The flag-off ceremony, which was presided over by the CEO and Commissioner General Section Kenya, Ms. Floice Mukabana, recognized the importance of athletes as global icons and ambassadors of Kenya’s excellence, showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage, innovation, and sporting prowess at the world exposition.
Ms. Mukabana noted that “Athletics is a fundamental aspect of Kenya’s soft power—embodying our national values of endurance, discipline, community, and excellence. Through each international competition, our athletes proudly display the Kenyan flag and forge a strong emotional and aspirational bond with audiences worldwide. As KEPROBA, we acknowledge athletics as an essential brand asset that enhances Kenya’s global image and facilitates opportunities for diplomacy, tourism, investment, and cultural exchange”.
The elite runners representing Kenya include Abel Kirui, vivian Cheruiyot, Hellen Musyoka, Timothy Kattam, Jonathan Maiyo, Bethwel Yegon and Dennis Kimeto based in Kenya and Sally Chepyego and Dennis Waweru who are based in Japan.
Kenya is part of the 162 countries participating in the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan under the theme “Kenya Rising: From the Bottom Up”, which aims to showcase its progress in renewable energy, Investment, tourism, trade, technology, and cultural heritage.
A range of events have been lined up during the expo.
Kenya Week Celebrations will begin on June 21st, 2025, with a diaspora networking dinner, a mini-marathon dubbed “Run with Champions” on 22nd June, Japan High-Level Business Forum, targeting trade, tourism, and investment opportunities to be held on June 23, 2025 and a culmination of the Kneya week will be at the Expo site with the National Day of honour to be marked on June 24, 2025.
The Expo 2025 Osaka presents a unique opportunity for Kenya to promote investment, tourism, and cultural exchange under the global theme of “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” Kenya aims to create awareness of its development initiatives, attract international partnerships, and promote its products and services to a global audience.
