The lakeside city of Kisumu is tonight set to host Transgenerational Conversations, a peace initiative led by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) in collaboration with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).

The event will take place at the Mama Grace Onyango Social and Cultural Centre, starting at 7:30PM, and will be broadcast live on KBC Channel 1.

It is expected to bring together voices across generations and sectors to address emerging societal tensions and promote sustainable peace.

The Kisumu edition serves as the culmination of activities marking the International Day of Peace 2025, set for Sunday, 21st September.

According to NCIC, the forums are designed not only to facilitate national healing and trust-building but also to influence policy frameworks that can bridge generational divides and ensure long-term peace.

Held under the theme “Amani Kwa Ground”, the program aims to bring together youth, elders, women, policymakers, scholars, and religious leaders to exchange perspectives and co-create solutions to pressing national issues such as unemployment, political intolerance, and intergenerational mistrust.

Ahead of the forum, Kisumu residents have called for deeper engagement with young people and a more inclusive approach to national development.

“The youth should be given the space and avenues to air their views and hold conversations with the older generations to foster peace,” said Elizabeth Orawo, a community development specialist in Kisumu.

“Amani ni msingi wa maendeleo. Serikali izingatie matatizo ya wananchi wa kawaida na kuwapa vijana ajira, hasa Gen Z waliomaliza shule bila kazi,” said Eric Ochieng, a resident of Kisumu.

The initiative is supported by UNDP and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
