Tanzanian musician Lady JayDee, widely known as the ‘Queen of Bongo Flava,’ has released her new single, “Po Po.”

This release marks her first musical offering of the year and coincides with her prodigious 25th anniversary in the music industry.

“Po Po” is also the first single released under her newly established distribution partnership with Universal Music Group East Africa (UMG EA).

This collaboration signifies a dynamic new chapter for Lady JayDee, promising to bring her signature sound to an even broader global audience.

“This song is to thank God for everything He has done for me. I have been through so much during my 25-year career: the battles, the wins, the ups and downs, the tears, and the victories. Many people I started with are no longer in the picture, but He gave me the courage to overcome whatever came my way. And here I am today, celebrating my 25th anniversary in music. He truly made me brave,” she said of the new song.

Reflecting on the creative process behind “Po Po,” Lady Jay Dee shared that she experienced feelings of immense happiness and a sense of holiness during the recording sessions. She says her intention for “Po Po” extends beyond personal expression; she hopes to instill a sense of courage and fearlessness in every listener facing personal struggles in their lives.

“I want everybody listening to this song to be encouraged and not to fear anything coming their way, because the only way to get where you want to go is to believe,” she said.

She further added that for her, “Po Po” is more than a new single. It’s an invitation to celebrate her milestone, acknowledging the collective efforts that made her a respected musical figure in East Africa and beyond.

“It feels good. I feel special. I am favoured, and I don’t take this for granted. My 25th anniversary in the entertainment industry with no scandals is no joke! I’m proud of myself, and I want everyone to be proud of me too, because I made it,” she said.
