President William Ruto has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support for the National Police Service as they maintain law and order throughout the country.
Speaking at a breakfast event at State House, Nairobi, to honour the 2025 FKF Premier League champions—Kenya Police FC and Kenya Police Bullets—the President highlighted the crucial role of police officers in securing the nation, protecting lives, and safeguarding property.
“Our security men and women deserve every support that we can muster for them to secure our nation,” he stated. “To every police officer, I give you my assurance that the Government of Kenya will support you and stand by you as you keep our families and property safe.”
President Ruto cautioned that no individual, regardless of status, is above the law and expressed that the government will not tolerate any attempts to intimidate or undermine police officers through violence. He urged citizens to respect and cooperate with the police for the good of the country.
He underscored the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of law enforcement officers, including allocating 20 per cent of affordable housing units to police personnel.
“We must look after our policemen and women as they look after our country,” he said.
Regarding sports, the President congratulated Kenya Police FC and Kenya Police Bullets for their historic victories and reiterated the government’s dedication to enhancing sports infrastructure and nurturing talent. He announced that the largest football stadium in Kenya and the region will be completed by December, along with the development of 37 sports academies nationwide.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen echoed the President’s sentiments, with Murkomen noting that rogue elements are misusing protests to create chaos. He urged the police to act decisively to uphold law and order.
“The National Police Service must be ruthless in dealing with such criminals because we want this country to be a country of law and order, not a country of chaos, so that all of us can thrive,” he said.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja assured the nation of the police service’s commitment to maintaining safety, despite facing numerous challenges. He expressed gratitude to the President for his ongoing support and pledged to lead officers in executing their duties with professionalism.
“I want to assure them that we stand with them, we support them, we want them to execute their mandate to ensure that our country remains safe,” he said.
The government also announced plans to launch the President’s Cup, a grassroots tournament aimed at expanding talent development pathways across the country.
