The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the National Police Service (NPS) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in a bid to promote fair, effective, and constitutionally grounded justice delivery.
Speaking at the one-day forum in Mombasa, ODPP Coast Regional Coordinator Peter Kiprop emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between prosecutors and investigators, noting their critical roles in upholding the rule of law and safeguarding constitutional rights.
Kiprop highlighted that prosecutors are not merely trial lawyers but are also mandated to guide investigations to ensure justice is served without infringing on suspects’ rights.
He further stressed the importance of professionalism and public trust in the justice system, particularly in the digital age where citizens are increasingly informed and demanding accountability.
His sentiments were echoed by head of the Coast Regional Training College, Chief Inspector Quinto Makio who reinforced the need for teamwork and professionalism between law enforcement and prosecutors, describing them as essential for achieving justice and building public confidence.
Makio urged investigators to carry out thorough, high-quality investigations and to approach the Decision to Charge (DTC) process with openness to feedback.
During the forum, ODPP and NPS officials acknowledged persistent challenges in the justice system, such as delays in advisory file processing.
They agreed on the importance of allowing due process to take its course, cautioning against hasty decisions that could jeopardize prosecutions.
