Ruto defends deal with Odinga, says it will stabilize the country

President William Ruto has defended his unity pact with ODM Leader Raila Odinga as the unity of purpose meant to stabilize the country.

The President attributed under underdevelopment in the country to ethnicity and division, asserting that he was keen on stamping out all forms of discrimination through a broad-based government.

He spoke in Siaya during the burial of George Oduor, a long-serving aide of Raila Odinga.

President William Ruto, who was among the mourners, defended his unity pact with Rail,a saying the union is devoid of personal interests.

Having been at cross-purposes in over two election cycles, the head of state attributed stability in his government to the unity pact.

Alluding to the impeachment of his former deputy, Ruto said divisions, skewed resource allocation and ethnicity were threatening development.

With Governors decrying shrinking resources allocated to counties, Raila used the opportunity to read the riot act on Members of Parliament whom he accused of sabotaging devolution.

George Oduor served the late Jaramogi Odinga and opposition Chief Raila Odinga.

The former PM eulogized him as a trusted ally who would go to any lengths to provide security and personal aid.
