Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado is set to defend himself in April after the High Court ruled that he has a case to answer in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

The defense hearing is scheduled to run from April 23 to April 25, 2025.

His co-accused, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero, will present their defenses separately from May 19 to May 23, 2025.

The court’s decision to place the accused on their defense comes after the prosecution concluded its case in June 2024 after presenting 42 witnesses, including a journalist.

The former governor informed Lady Justice Cecilia Githua that he intends to give sworn evidence in his defense.

He further told the court that he will also present two witnesses during the hearing.

Sharon was killed in 2018 while pregnant, in a murder allegedly orchestrated by Obado and his associates.

The three have denied any involvement in the killing.
