Global mobile technology firm, TECNO commenced it’s initiative to renovate 100 football pitches across Africa.
While breaking ground for renovation of youth sports centre in Nairobi, the firm said the project underscores TECNO’s commitment not only to sports but also to creating opportunities for Africa’s youth by investing in grassroots development.
The initiative is tied to TECNO’s partnership with the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), reflecting a vision that football is more than just a game; it is hope, opportunity, and a pathway to brighter futures.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Hashim Kamau, Member of County Assembly (MCA) Kinyago California Ward applauded TECNO’s dedication to Africa’s talent and potential.
“This partnership between TECNO with AFCON is not only about celebrating football at the highest level, but also about investing in the grassroots, where the true heartbeat of the game lives.
Through this commitment, the brand is set to renovate 100 football pitches across African communities, reinforcing the belief that football is more than just a game, it is hope,” he said at the ground breaking ceremony held at Austin Grounds in Mulango Kubwa, Mathare.
The initiative targets to ensure the pitches are safe and accessible to young people and to act as an alternative to crime, drugs, and other social challenges, while instilling values of teamwork, discipline, and resilience.
By creating safe spaces for play, TECNO aims to empower communities to nurture talent, build social cohesion, and inspire future generations.
TECNO says beyond improving pitches, the initiative represents an investment in Africa’s future, ensuring that talent has the environment and opportunity to shine.
The firm expects to work with local communities to build spaces that will create joy, teamwork, and success stories for years to come.
