EACC probes Laikipia County Assembly Speaker over alleged forgery of academic papers

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) are investigating Laikipia County Assembly Speaker Lantano Nabaala over allegations of forging his academic credentials.

EACC officers conducted searches at his offices in Nyahururu and Rumuruti as part of the probe.

It is alleged that the Speaker used the forged certificates to secure the position. As a result, the Commission is seeking to recover approximately Ksh15 million in salary, allowances, and benefits paid to him between October 2022 to date.

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is conducting investigations into allegations of forgery of academic certificates (KCSE Certificate) by Hon. Lantano Labaala, Speaker of County Assembly of Laikipia. It is alleged that the Speaker used the forged certificates to obtain the job of the Speaker of Laikipia County Assembly”, EACC stated.

“The search operation was conducted on Tuesday, pursuant to warrants issued by a Court, targeting the Speaker’s house in Nanyuki, his office at the County Assembly within Nanyuki, County Assembly Service Board offices in Nyahururu and HR office in Rumuruti”, the commission explained.

The officers have obtained evidence, and investigations are nearly complete.

“The operation has yielded valuable evidentiary material that will support the ongoing investigation which are at the tail end”, EACC said.
